University system
The US university system stands out for its flexibility, research orientation, and unique academic calendar.
The undergraduate cycle lasts 4 years and ends with a Bachelor's degree. The grade is the equivalent of a distinction and depends on grades earned throughout the program.
The graduate cycle ends with a Master, typically 1 to 2 years. The PhD that follows can stretch up to 10 cumulative years since the Bachelor's.
Continuous assessment through personal work after extensive readings, discussed in small groups or in class with the instructor.
Types of institutions
They host far more students with much broader teaching, up to PhD level. The widest range of programs, from undergraduate through advanced research.
Smaller, with a less varied offering, generally up to Bachelor's level. A more intimate atmosphere with often more personalized academic support.
They prepare for the equivalent of a two-year degree. After them, students can continue at a university or college, with a smooth transition.
